Program Overview
(June-August 2026)
Eko Ede Yoruba is a 12-week language learning program built by Minnesota Educators, Artists, and Culture Bearers to support advanced, intermediate, and emerging Yoruba language learners.
Classes are every Saturday from 1:00-3:00pm between June and August.

Purpose
Creating a safe, non-judgmental space to speak Yoruba without fear or tears.

Emerging:
Greetings & Cultural Fluency
Learn More
Emerging Learners will receive a Yoruba name, learn cultural greetings, relationship dynamics, the Yoruba alphabet, numbers (1-10), and the basics of food, clothing, and identity.
Prerequisites: None

Intermediate:
Sentence Structure & Vocabulary
Learn More
Intermediate learners will review Level 1 (see greetings and cultural fluency), plus build knowledge in numbers (1-20, 10s, & 100s) while expanding their vocabulary and the eight traditional parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adverbs, etc.).
Prerequisites: Must be able to order food and, upon review, count from 1-10 in Yoruba with ease.

Advanced:
Math, Science & Philosophy
Learn More
Advanced learners will review Level 1 & 2 (see: sentence structure and vocabulary), plus build knowledge in complex numbers (15+) and use Yoruba to debate history, science, technology, arts & philosophy.
Prerequisites: Must be able to engage in complex debate and, upon review, count from 1-20 in Yoruba with ease.
