Program Overview
A 12-week language learning program build to support emerging, intermediate, and advanced Yoruba language learners.
Classes are every Saturday from 1:00-3:00pm between June and August.
Overall Goals: Participants will build speaking confidence in Yoruba by developing communication networks.
Post completion, students will be able to incorporate functional/everyday Yoruba terms and vocabulary to boost native communication in their day to day lives.


Emerging

Greetings & Cultural Fluency
Emerging learners are new to the Yoruba language and culture or need to review the basics including the cultural greetings, relationship, and identity dynamics. Emerging classes will learn the Yoruba alphabet, Numbers (1-10), basic food & clothing.
You may be an emerging learner if you do not know how to greet and respond in Yoruba.

Intermediate

Sentence Structure & Vocabulary
Intermediate learners are knowledgeable in Yoruba language and culture but cannot engage in thoughtful debate using the language. Intermediate classes will review level 1 curriculum (see greetings and cultural fluency), numbers (1-20, 10s, & 100s), and deeper into parts of speech.
You may be an intermediate learner if you are able to order food in Yoruba.

Advanced

Debate, Math & Science
Advance learners may want to build a network of other advanced learners. Classes will review Level 1 & 2 (see: sentence structure and vocabulary), complex Numbers (15+), Money, Time & Presence, History, Science & Technology, Arts & Philosophy.
You may be an advanced learner if you are able to hold a debate in Yoruba.
